Fic: What are we?, Welcome to the Punch, Jacob/Max, R

As of last week week we have opened up the Drabble cascade to flash fiction of up to 500 words as well, so you don't have to hit the 100 exactly if you would like to play.

Our word of the week is 'friend'.

If you're a fanfic author, we take any fandom any rating.
If you're an original author you could write a drabble for your current book and use the cascade as a way to grab new readers.
We even take meta.

The only rule about content is that it has to be inspired by this week's word of the week.

On full LJ the list does not show up because it won't allow javascript, but it still shows up the header link (see below) if you copy the list code as normal. You can add your link and grab the code at this post (the chain link icon will bring up a box with the code in it).

Title: What are we?
Author: Beren
Fandom: Welcome to the Punch
Pairing: Jacob Sternwood/Max Lewinsky
Rating: R (you could argue PG13, but I'm playing it safe)
Word Count: 100

It wasn't the first time he'd ended up on his back with his legs spread for Sternwood. In fact it had kind of become a thing. What was different this time was he hadn't immediately left afterwards or, lately, rolled over and gone straight to sleep.

Sternwood walked out of the bathroom dressed in designer pyjama pants and Max just looked at him.
"What are we?" he asked as he realised this former enemy was all he had left.

Silence filled the room for long, agonising seconds.

"Friends," Sternwood said.

Max wasn't sure if he wanted to laugh or cry.
