Day 09: The Gift

The Zephyr Gathering Day is a great day, the time when the Flame of Zephyr will affirm the next steward of the Zephyr line and their lands. For most, it is a time of celebration, but for Lord Zephyr himself, it is time to pay for his wandering youth as, not only his legitimate heirs, but all those born of his roving eye must also be acknowledged and given a chance to lay claim to his lands.
Zephyr hope the Flame will ratify his choice, his eldest son, Rik, but nothing in the ways of ancient magic is certain. Yet, that is not the lord's only worry, because, among his gathering offspring is one whose name he knows and whose origins could threaten his whole line. Ythran of the Darklands does not want to be in Zephyr Keep. A wizard, he does not trust Normals and they are afraid of him. Only the deep magic of the Flame has brought him to the superstitious South Midlands and he wishes his visit be as brief as possible.
However, when magic and distrust collide, father and son come face to face.
