Another question - but for the Brits

Something's been bothering me, and I'm wondering if it is just me. It's about Britisms.

Okay, the things the teachers take - did you ever call them classes at school or did you call them lessons? When I was at school you went to lessons and were part of a class (i.e. the group of people), but I went to a posh girls school and we called homework, prep, so it might have been just us ::g::. You can take evening classes, but they conjure up a whole different idea than lessons that you take at school. Going to class sounds American to me - am I just odd?

Is this making any sense to anyone, or am I wittering on and making you look at me funny? I don't mind if it's just me, I'd just like to know ;).
