Dean always became tense around Christmas and Sam had watched it happen yearly for most of his life. Their father had always done his best to make sure that the holiday season was not completely like any other day for them as kids, but hunting had always come first and Sam knew that bothered Dean.

Every year Dean had tried to make Christmas special for his baby brother and as he had grown older Sam had realised that it was just a tiny part of his life before that Dean tried to keep alive. This was Dean's requiem for mom.
