Future Imperfect - Harry/Draco implied - angst
Title: Future Imperfect
Author: Beren (aka Didi)
Email: beren at dtwins . co . uk
Livejournal: http://www.livejournal.com/users/beren_writes/
Pairing: Harry/Draco implied
Rating: PG-13
Disclaimer: This story is based on characters and situations created and owned by JK Rowling, various publishers including but not limited to Bloomsbury Books, Scholastic Books and Raincoast Books, and Warner Bros., Inc. No money is being made and no copyright or trademark infringement is intended.
Warnings: This story has SPOLIERS for OotP. If you don't want to know anything that went on in book five do not read this.
Genre: Slash
Summary: The Order is about to make a decision that will change everything; someone is there to stop them.
Author's Notes: This just came to me in the shower this morning after having re-read the beginning of OotP and being somewhat pissed off. I think you can safely say I was expunging demons so this is darkish. My sister has given it a quick once over but it has not been endlessly betaed because I wanted to post it in honour of National Slash Day.

Though I have to admit that I kinda like the idea of an evil harry
Y'know, I hate to admit it too, but I find him kinda sexy in a whole evil incarnate kind of way too ::g::.

I'm glad you had sympathy for Ron. When I first started writing the fic he was actually Hermione, but then he morphed into Ron, so the fic when through a number of changes in my head. It was Ron's determination and loyalty to the Harry he had known that I wanted to come through.

Thank you so much for taking the time to review.

I'm going through your older stuff and...wow.
I love this.
"They all wanted to save you," Ron said as he looked up at the man who had murdered half of Britain, "I just wanted to stop you existing."

Every time Moody opens his mouth in OotP I get a flash of this universe. I could so see Harry break off, little by little, until just the 'machine' they created is left.

Powerful image of Ron and his battle-worn face. I can only imagine how he longed to be fully there in that room with all his loved ones again, all of them alive and whole. I ache to think about all that he's seen. Dumbledore's death in front of the whole school just gave me shivers.

I think I'm starting to really love angst.
I already love you! ;)

Thank you *hugs*. This was my second ever HP fanfic, it might even have been the first I published, I can't remember :). Soph's comment after she beta read it for me was that she never wanted to see it again because it was so dark. I pointed out it had a happy ending - sort of, but she didn't agree ::g::.

Every now and then I really enjoy writing for a completely different persepctive, besides which I found the mental image of the Warlord very sexy ::g::.

I think I'm starting to really love angst.
I find I have to really trust the author to enjoy angst, 'cause I can't deal with angst without resolution (you may have noticed this ;)).

I already love you! ;)
Aww shucks *blushes*

yeah..I think what I really love is flangst, but I love how some of the really great angsty authors can really get under a character's skin, push them to their limits and see what happens as a result. It's nice to dive deeper every once in a while. I think fluff, drama and humour authors can do this too, but I think it might be harder. There's more room for that in Angst.

I've been mulling over asking you if I could write in this universe. I got bit with a bunny yesterady. It's not like I don't already have enough on my plate, but I started to think about where Harry and Draco were during this meeting, and a scene popped into my head.

*hugs* You're my muse, baby!

I think the type of angst I like is when the characters are pushed and pushed until they finally fall, but then they are caught by someone. It's the romantic in me that can never be kept down.

I've been mulling over asking you if I could write in this universe.
If your bunny grows please feel free. Mi universes es su universes ;). I'd really like to see what Harry and Draco were doing as well. I've never had another bunny for this one and it would be lovely to see someone else expand on it.

woot! *hugs* You are too good to me. always.

I'm a romantic too. I like to see the characters all put back together at the end. I think this fic did have a hopeful ending...maybe not happy (since we didn't see what happened) but full of hope for sure. Way to go, Ron!
Beren: Remus Friendship[info]beren_writes on 20th October 2004 07:42 (UTC)
Ron actually started out as Hermione in the first idea for the fic, but became Ron as I wrote :).

I read that. Much cool! ;)

Thank you, so pleased you enjoyed it. So sorry I haven't replied in such a long time, I managed to get behind before Christmas and I'm literally only just catching up.

hellgirldeity[info]hellgirldeity on 14th April 2005 07:24 (UTC)
This fic brought up a question I had a while back. (Loved the fic by the way.) What happens to a warrior when there's no more war to fight? I mean in the end of OoTF, they seem to just blow off the fact that Sirius died. Harry seemed almost ok with that. (Haven't read the book in a while this is all coming out of memory.)

I just don't think it can be that cut-and-dry. Things like what is going to happen soon are not just going to roll off Harry's back. He's not going to stay all shiny and new. You brought that forth very well and I thank you for that.
Beren: Remus Friendship[info]beren_writes on 20th April 2005 07:26 (UTC)
I wonder what's going to happen to Harry as well. Society in general has a nasty habit of bringing it's warriors back, patting them on the head and expecting them to be normal. The Wizarding world expects a child to fight their war for them and at the end they may be left with more than they can deal with.

So pleased you liked the fic :). Thanks for reviewing.
firefly820[info]firefly820 on 22nd April 2005 18:32 (UTC)
Ok, are you going to turn this into a long novel length story, because I can see the potential...you could start with them killing Draco and takes us through in detail up to Ron's death????

*Pokes bunny with stick*

LOL

Sorry, the bunny for this one is an ex-bunny, it only had a little life in it. This fic is its epitaph :). Thanks for commenting.

I read this once before and it left me breathless. Rereading it has the same effect. Absolutely brilliant writing. I.C. and totally possable.
Beren: Remus Friendship[info]beren_writes on 3rd May 2005 06:35 (UTC)
Thank you so much, I'm very pleased it moved you. This was my second ever HP fanfic. My sister refused to read it ever again because she said it was so dark ::g::.
newtypeshadow: peeping Lex[info]newtypeshadow on 11th June 2005 21:29 (UTC)
you're such an amazing writer! this story is so vivid, both past and future. can't say i'm not i'm glad the ending was hopeful, though. i can only handle so much darkness. *g*
[info]thyme_writting on 18th June 2005 06:56 (UTC)
This was an amazing fic. I usually don't read dark fics, but seeing as it was your work, I gave it a shot and I am glad that I did. I like how all the darkness came about just cause they were trying to protect Harry. Interesting concept there. Are you going to write any more like this?
Anansay[info]anansay on 22nd July 2005 13:58 (UTC)
Now THAT'S bloody amazing. What a twist!
Oooh, the possibilities are endless...!

Thank you for writing this.

When I read that all I could think of was, "WHAT!" But it actually makes perfect sense. Very intriguing outlook.
thrnbrooke[info]thrnbrooke on 29th November 2005 22:03 (UTC)
Holy moly! I hope it worked. I hope that Draco was not out to destroy Harry and I hope the Warlord never came to be.
(Anonymous) on 27th December 2005 03:08 (UTC)
nice one... i love all your stories...
... this one smacked of the X-MEN's DAYS OF FUTURE PAST (X-MEN 141-142) and it was just as brilliant... i wish you'd focus on continuing in some of the other stories... especially the CORRUPTION series... it's REALLY good!!!!

Ashes: Tea[info]cool_tre_cool on 18th February 2006 23:42 (UTC)
Ooooh... You must continue this... You must take this wonderful ficcu and continue it and show us whether or not they take his advice, or whether that future will play out differently... WIll Ron die again in the same gruesome way, or will he die differently because they tried to stop it, but someone still managed to kill Draco and on and on...
Anyways, great fic.
[info]closetidentity on 20th June 2006 02:26 (UTC)
Interesting
I am sorry to say I didn't really enjoy this one as much as your other work... Harry being evil just seems strange... then again it could just be me and my raging teenage hormones wishing this one had sex. Still a good plot, just needs expanded upon... was a bit like Terminator, but much compacted.
dumbys_baby[info]dumbys_baby on 30th June 2006 03:57 (UTC)
Nicely dark. I loved it.
I have yet to read too many other fics with time-travel in them, and this reminded me of The Terminator also, but take that as the compliment it was intended!
A friend of mine recently asked me to write him something that was a crossover between HP and Terminator; he just wanted to read "Harry Potter, come with me if you want to live" in a story. So I wrote it. I just hope that if you ever manage to stumble on my fic, that you won't think I'm ripping off your idea.
You and your sister are truly talented.

I loved this! So dark!! You should continue it on! i love this "evil" Harry!!

xtreme17nc13: H/D - Black & White[info]xtreme17nc13 on 21st September 2006 22:55 (UTC)
Wow. That was amazing, but I must admit, I feel a little cheated.. Here I was, looking for a long, drawn-out epic of evilness (that would have contained just a bit of smu) and I get a delightfully disturbing piece that just leaves me panting for more. Amazing job and I'm actually kind of glad you left it there.

Wow... I loved it. Wonderful read. You're a very talented author. Jaime
suonguyen: Harry and Draco[info]suonguyen on 31st August 2007 06:48 (UTC)
Wow, that was so short, but so good! I love that it was Ron who came back to tell them not to kill Draco, I wish I could see Harry changed, that would really be sweet!
[info]lunar_sun on 2nd August 2008 18:22 (UTC)
Wow, this was really good.
You could easily turn it into a long series.

I love this fic.
I put it on my Harry Potter rec list.
(Anonymous) on 13th September 2009 22:32 (UTC)
I really liked how you didn’t give us significant clue about Draco is he really good for Harry or not? I just might guess that he is changed after what Lupin told.
And I think that after misplaced concern what lead to murder; Harry has all rights for vengeance also they did lie about Draco’s dead told him that Death Eaters killed him or at least allowed Harry to believe that.
I sooo love when for Harry Draco is his reason for live.

Wow- that was excellent. I loved how Harry became a Warlord...I was having chills while reading Ron's description of FutureHarry and then him being killed was just perfect for the mood you created. You are a very talented writer!
missmarauder2[info]missmarauder2 on 28th April 2010 00:41 (UTC)
At first I was a little disappointed because it was another time travel fic, but this was really great. I love the way you implied the present Harry, as on the brink, his humanity just as fragile as Voldemort's. It is very very cool.
